Staff Spotlight: Carolyn Dearing
Lead custodian, Southside Technical Center

I feel like I'm an integral part of the education going on at Southside. Each day brings a new opportunity to connect with our students. A connection might be as simple as my noticing a student having a bad day and complimenting her, or it might be a student going out of his way to bring me a “treat,” which makes my day.
I see so many good things happening at Southside. For instance, I was honored to help a student prepare for the SkillsUSA contest; his eagerness to learn was an eye-opening experience for me. He won the competition at the local and state levels and went to the national contest in Kansas City, Mo. The student experienced many “firsts” on this academic journey, and I was happy be a part of it all.
I also love how the employees at Southside are more like family than co-workers. Since our staff is small, everyone seems to look after each other.
My job has me working all over the building, so I interact with staff and students all day. My job is unique and different, and I wouldn't have it any other way! I am grateful to be a part of the Southside family.
