Biology & chemistry teacher, Locust Trace AgriScience Farm

As a teacher, I have come to appreciate something very important about science. Its understanding and value cannot be gained through simply reading texts and reciting definitions. To truly comprehend and appreciate science, in its vast diversity and layered organization, students must see it before them, touch it, listen to it. Science must be experienced!
When I present a topic to my students, I want them to remember not just the facts, but also the purpose. I want them to realize the implications -- present and future. To achieve this goal, there must be personal meaning and relevance in my lessons.
Here at Locust Trace, we have worked fervently to build an agricultural curriculum that is unparalleled. Presenting science concepts within such a context allows students to learn the information in a way that resonates and endures. I teach students how science improves their lives, and how it can be used to solve problems, understand the unknown and create new ideas. Locust Trace teaches students how all of these concepts can be applied. Having such a common goal between a school and its teachers is the best way to ensure the greatest success in our students' chosen career paths.
