Staff Spotlight: Susan Sither

Second-grade teacher, Tates Creek Elementary

"As an elementary educator, I have always felt that my job is extremely important. Primary educators lay the groundwork for our students’ future. It is imperative that we inspire in our children a thirst for lifelong learning.

"There are a few basic principles that I believe to be important in the education of our students:

  • Treat each child with dignity and respect.
  • See that basic needs are met.
  • Maintain a safe, nurturing school environment.
  • Set high standards.
  • Recognize the potential in every student.

"Teachers provide opportunities and guidance for our students’ future. It is our job to motivate and inspire them.  However, in the words of Galileo, 'You cannot teach a man anything -- you can only help him find it within himself.'"
