Staff Spotlight: Bobby Riddle
Automotive technology teacher, Eastside Technical Center

"The most important thing I can do as a teacher is to show my students how to become adults. I don't treat them like children. I treat them like adults in a professional workplace atmosphere, with all the responsibilities, as well as some of the privileges. It's surprising to them that there's a connection between what they learn in my classroom and how much money they can earn. They're not just earning a grade -- they're gaining experience to take to a job interview.
"I love watching them transform into young adults. When students respect you, they will work hard to meet the expectations given to them. The only way to earn their respect is to respect them first. I expect them to look me in the eye and to tell the truth -- always -- and to shake hands at the end of the day.
"At Eastside, we have a staff that truly works together for the advancement of our students. It makes my job easier that our students want to come through the door and into our classrooms each day."
