Staff Spotlight: Antonio Melton
Guidance counselor, Leestown Middle School

"As a school counselor, I am privileged to be a cheerleader, advocate and teacher in a role that is designed to address the whole child: social/emotional, academic and career development. This happens most efficiently when I am able to collaborate with colleagues, parents and community agents.
"My philosophy of education has changed through the years. Although I still believe that all students can achieve at high levels, I am more aware of how complicated and difficult ensuring this task can be. The key to engaging students lies in the foundation of a trusting relationship. They must first believe that you want to know them and that you care about them as individuals. Once this is accomplished, target lessons and strategies can take students to their next level.
"Great visions begin with a simple start: Love them irrationally! They will let you know how to engage them."
