Staff Spotlight: Jim Adams
LAN/WAN technician at P.L. Dunbar High

"There is no higher calling than being an educator. The dedication it takes to be on the front lines, as my teacher colleagues are, is something to be admired. But in my 20 years’ experience in education, I have concluded that those of us in educational support bring a critical element to the successful education of our students. To be in education, you must be willing to be a life-long learner and to take on new challenges as they present themselves, which is why I have continued to increase my skill set, completed my undergraduate degree and am working on a master’s degree in education.
"Originally I was hired to support all aspects of instructional technology in the district. My job duties have changed through the years, and I currently support technology at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School and provide district support for Sharepoint, iSchool and Scholastic Enterprise Software.
"One also must be committed to the community. I serve as the Department of Education Technology's representative to the FCPS Classified Council and serve as co-coordinator of the Student Technology Leadership Program at Dunbar.
"It is all about the kids at Fayette County Public Schools, and we must remind them to reach for the stars. Sometimes we have to go beyond our own comfort zones and show them how to reach the stars by example."
