Staff Spotlight: Amber Johnson

Fourth-grade teacher at Deep Springs Elementary

"Having the opportunity to motivate and help children grow every day is the most rewarding occupation I can think of.  Teaching to me is more than simply following the content listed on important state documents. Teaching is having the ability to affect the future with every student that enters my classroom. By expecting nothing but the best from every child I instruct, I want them to expect the same of themselves.

"Education has changed a great deal from when I was in elementary school. The expectations are higher and the work more rigorous. I feel that the higher demands cannot prevent the student’s personal creativity. I believe every child is capable of learning if the environment is provided.  Differentiating each lesson and allowing students to express themselves have set the tone for a positive and successful career.

"I find the most effective teaching is when the students themselves are the ones doing the instructing. Once each child is engaged and curious, they will be able to explore content and truly experience 'learning.' Every day holds a new experience for my students and for me."
