Staff Spotlight: Carla O'Brien
Winburn Middle School; library media specialist

"One of the most rewarding (and at times challenging) aspects of my job is helping non-readers find a book they will actually read and enjoy. Nothing warms my heart like the smile of a student who has discovered how wonderful reading can be.
"I truly believe that non-readers of any age are just one book away from becoming readers. They just need to find that one book they connect with, that they can’t put down even though their eyes are drooping with fatigue, that one book they can’t wait to tell someone about, that one book that changes the way they view reading forever.
"If I can help my students find that one book, then they can begin viewing books as valuable possessions (as opposed to tools of torture) that can take them to faraway places, stretch their imaginations and strengthen their minds."
