"Martin Luther King Jr. Academy is a smaller school environment with highly trained staff that looks at each student’s specific needs. We work as a team to find ways to make the best connections with each student so we can help them help themselves by providing positive opportunities to succeed academically, emotionally and behaviorally.

"My job allows me the opportunity to meet initially with the students and their parents. I first give the family an overview of our school and explain the various aspects such as dress code, transition contact and specific rules at MLK.

"The culture surrounding today’s students is ever growing and changing with the use of technology, media and higher educational standards. I believe with our 'It’s About Kids' approach, we focus not only on the student but also on the family, culture, environment and community as a whole. We infuse all of these key aspects into a plan for each student to become a successful, contributing member of society."
