Staff Spotlight: Marshall Spivey
Athens-Chilesburg Elementary School, Fifth Grade

"Each day in the classroom brings new challenges for me and my students. The wonderful thing about teaching is that no two days are alike. I look at each day as another opportunity to help shape a child’s life into being a productive member of society. I strive to give every child, regardless of their background, an opportunity to learn in an environment that is safe and nurturing. All students have the right to learn, and it is my job to find the way that fosters each individual’s talents and needs.
"As a parent, I want my own children to be loved and treated with respect when they are at school. I also want them to be taught how to become responsible for their own actions. This is why I strive to treat each child with that same respect, while having high expectations at the same time. I often tell my students that as much as I would like to, I cannot follow them through life holding their hand. Therefore, it is my job to teach them strategies and skills so that they can become productive citizens."
