The Parent Resource Center is a program of the Department of Special Education Kathy Dykes, Director Donna Gatewood, Parent Coordinator Anita Jones, Parent Coordinator Rachel Baker , Special Education Administrator LocationIAKSS Parent Resource CenterThe Parent Resource Center provides a place where parents of children with special needs can receive parent to parent counseling on special education issues and concerns. Parents are welcome to come visit the center and preview materials from the lending library. The lending library has many books, videotapes, and periodicals related to topics concerning disability. The staff is available to connect parents to local and national resources and support groups as well as offer internet access for online research of pertinent information. The Parent Resource Center is open and available to families on the traditional school schedule. Additional times are available by appointment. The staff is frequently out of the center at other school sites or at conferences. Support Group for Parents of Students with ADHDIf you are the parent of a child with ADHD, you know the challenges that can be created at home, at school and sometimes in the community. In an effort to assist families, the Fayette County Public School is offering a free support group for parents of students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders. A portion of each meeting will be used for support and another portion to acquire new information and share ideas. The group will come together the last Tuesday of each month. If you want to come for informal chat and snacks from 6:30 to 7 p.m. please join us at that time. The actual meeting will be held from 7-8 pm. We will discuss issues relevant to parenting students who are inattentive, impulsive and/or hyperactive. Meeting dates are as follows: September 25, October 30, November 27, No meeting will be held in December, January 29, February 26, March 25, and April 29. All sessions will be held at the It’s About Kids Support Service building (central board of education office) at 701 East Main Street in conference room C. Upon entering the building, take the elevator to the second floor and look for signage. Parking is available behind the main building at the entrance off Walton Avenue.
