At Locust Trace, students learn about agricultural business, farm management, environmental stewardship and entrepreneurship. Book learning becomes more meaningful as they work directly with animals and crops on our 82-acre site off Leestown Road.
High school students in Fayette County Public Schools can register for courses in these areas:
- Plant and Land Science
- Biotechnology and Environmental Science
- Agriculture Power Mechanics
- Equine and Vet Science
- Small and Large Animal Science
In addition to classroom space, the property has a veterinarian clinic, arena barn, livestock barn and community gardens.
What makes our school special
In FCPS, Locust Trace leads the way in pursuing net-zero energy usage and sitting lightly upon the land. The farm is minimally connected to water, sewage and electrical municipalities. Instead, Locust Trace relies on photovoltaic solar panels, constructed wetlands, on-site wells, cisterns, and passive solar and geothermal technology.
