The School for the Creative and Performing Arts at Bluegrass was established in 1987 to provide students in grades 4-8 an opportunity enhance their abilities in the fine arts in a setting that emphasizes the arts while providing a solid academic foundation. Students who are accepted into the program have a special talent or interest in the arts and receive instruction in visual arts, band, strings, vocal music, piano, dance (ballet and contemporary), drama and creative writing in addition to the state’s core academic curriculum. Learning is further enhanced by participation in performances throughout the year, as well as field trips and opportunities to meet and talk with other artists.
What makes our school special
Anyone who has ever known a true artist knows that it takes a special place to make them feel welcome and blossom. Our staff is specially trained to work with students who are gifted and talented in the fine arts, and students often say they feel like they have found a home here at SCAPA. Not only is SCAPA a high-performing middle school in Kentucky as measured by state academic assessments, our students are legendary for their prominence in state speech tournaments, state band, chorus and orchestra competitions and state drama, writing, piano and dance showcases. Our school is able to nurture students in the fine arts while also challenging them academically and meeting their social and emotional needs.
