Our motto is "Believe, Achieve, Succeed," and our students move on to be standouts in the fields of education, medicine, law and commerce. We have a strong family atmosphere that encourages each student not only to excel in academics, but also to grow socially and emotionally.
Leestown opened as an elementary school in 1957. Ten years later, it became a junior high school for grades 7-9. In 1990, it transitioned to the middle school format, serving grades 6-8. The building underwent a three-year renovation that was completed in October 2011.
What makes our school special
Leestown is a wonderfully diverse school that celebrates and is proud of its diversity. “The Leestown Way” inspires our students daily to practice RESPECT (Remembering basic kindness, Encouraging others, Standing together, Playing fair, Extending a hand, Causing no harm, and Thinking first).
Our school takes seriously the responsibility of educating all students to the fullest, and we have a strong focus on literacy and increasing academic standards and supports for students. A vibrant arts program, a gold-level orchestra, a distinguished band, and a number of clubs and athletic teams complement the academic program. Our students enjoy zero-hour classes that are taught by Bluegrass Community and Technical College staff on topics as diverse as college-bound writing and crime-scene investigation (CSI). In addition, the Starting Gate program provides after-school tutoring.
Leestown also provides learning opportunities for students on an accelerated track through the pre-engineering program, featuring advanced math and science as well as graphic arts and robotics.
