Our school, built in 1963, was named for Jessie McFarland Clark, the first woman elected to the school board, in 1948; her picture still hangs in the school foyer. Committed to educating the whole child, our school is known for our character education program, which strives to generate a sense of responsibility and respect for others. We are proud to be the only middle school in Fayette County offering Japanese instruction.

What makes our school special

Our committed and caring staff works extremely hard to provide a welcoming and positive learning experience for our students. We want Jessie Clark to be a place where the genuine care and education of our students is our highest goal. We pay special attention to our school climate and to the social and emotional well-being of our students. Academic achievement is a top priority, and we seek to challenge all students to achieve their potential. Our motto is “Racing to Proficiency” because we want to accelerate the achievement of our kids while ensuring that every one finds success. We start our day with “Eagle Time” class, providing an opportunity for students to connect with a mentor teacher; it also covers such topics as Internet safety, drug abuse awareness and study skills. We know that community involvement is a key to our students’ success, so our youth service center works hard to make contacts with outside agencies; we partner with Big Brothers-Big Sisters, 4-H, Junior Achievement and other supporters to enhance the experiences we provide for our students.
