Crawford Middle School opened in 1968 and is named for two Lexington educators, Dr. and Mrs. A.B. Crawford. Dr. Crawford served as principal at Bryan Station and Lafayette high schools, while Mrs. Crawford taught at Linlee High School and later worked as an attendance officer. The mission of Crawford Middle School has been to provide a learning environment that fosters and facilitates academic success while striving to address the critical, emotional, intellectual, social and physiological needs of our students.
What makes our school special
A common saying around the halls of Crawford Middle School is "WE ARE ... CRAWFORD!" These words ring loudly because of the sense of pride we have as a school. As a faculty and staff, we have come together because of our love for children and our passion and dedication to help our students succeed.
We build supportive partnerships with colleagues and have renewed our focus on creating strong partnerships with our students and families as well. We are determined that our kids will succeed, and we're committed to doing whatever it takes. We believe that educators need to meet students where they are and cater to the needs of all students.
Crawford's rigorous and engaging core curriculum, combined with reading and math extension classes that go from primary through college level, helps prepare students to take Advanced Placement classes in high school and to excel on college entrance exams like the SAT and ACT.
