Russell Cave School started as a one-room schoolhouse built before 1900 on Mount Brilliant's Farm; it was named for a cave on the property. The building was destroyed by fire in the spring of 1926, and the students attended classes first in a tent and then in a barn until the school was rebuilt. Russell Cave became an elementary school in the early 1950s and has since been renovated.

What makes our school special
Russell Cave is home to a diverse group of wonderful students and teachers who are committed to learning and educating at the highest possible levels. All instruction is based on the standards set forth by the state, and students are pushed to master not only the standards at their grade level but far beyond. We believe that all students need to be adequately prepared to participate in the 21st-century world; therefore, we provide a wealth of technology for our students and have a 2:1 student-computer ratio. In addition, our staff prides itself on a collaborative work environment that breeds a true sense of teamwork and family. We believe that all students can and will learn at high levels.
