The original Harrison Elementary was constructed in 1849 on West Main Street. Named for James O. Harrison, the first superintendent of Lexington Public Schools, our school is the oldest existing school in our system. The present building was completed in 1972 and renovated in 1999.
What makes our school special
The Harrison community is dedicated to becoming a model school with all students performing at the proficient level. To fulfill this mission, our faculty and staff work collaboratively with parents and community members to create an educational environment in which every child can be successful. Our enhanced arts and humanities program support our academic achievement goals. This program includes visual art, Spanish, chorus, violin lessons for students in K-3, piano keyboard lab for grades 3-5, and a strong Academic Challenge team. High expectations are set for all students and faculty members as we continue to strive for proficiency. We also house a Healthy Kids Clinic, which provides many services for students during the school day.
