The original Harrison Elementary School was constructed in 1849 on West Main Street. Named for James O. Harrison, the first superintendent of the Lexington Public Schools, Harrison Elementary is the oldest existing school in our system. The present building was completed in 1972 and renovated in 1999.

What makes our school special

Our intentional focus on proficiency for all students makes Harrison a great place to be. The exciting Turn Around Project has made it possible for us to offer an enhanced arts and humanities program to support our academic achievement goals. This program includes visual art, Spanish, drama, violin lessons for students in K-3, piano keyboard lab for grades 3-5, a chess club and a strong Academic Challenge team.
