Glendover Elementary School was built in 1957, and an addition was completed in 1985. The school is in a quiet, residential neighborhood on a large campus that includes a walking track, tennis courts and an excellent playground that was updated in 2008. Parent involvement has been a key to our success, with a well-organized PTA and active support from families. PTA programs include winter and spring student music programs, International Fair, Science Fair and Science Fun Day and a pizza party for Book Fair Night. The Glendover PTA sponsors the Chess Club, the Yearbook Committee and a drama workshop with the Lexington Children's Theatre. A basketball training league for girls and boys is organized by the Glendover Booster Club, a parent organization. The School-Based Decision Making Council, which has been in effect since 1994, continued the committee organizations begun under the School Renewal Process as identified by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Committees, which include teacher and parent representation, include the following areas: planning, school climate, curriculum, staff development, technology and communication.
What makes our school special
Glendover Elementary School is a true multicultural school with students representing 20 nations. Interactive technology is integral to our curriculum, with SMART Boards in every classroom in grades 1-5.
