Dixie, which is on the northeast side of Lexington, opened in August 1966 and was extensively renovated in 1999. The building is an open complex school that nurtures the philosophy of a school family and professional learning community. Our magnet emphasis provides an instructional program for every child that will maximize individual strengths and interests.
What makes our school special
At Dixie, all students are offered an individualized, intensive and enriched program in all core areas. The children are scheduled for art, music, physical education, library and technology on a rotating schedule. In addition, Dixie is offers Chinese language classes.
Dixie integrates state-of-the-art technology into its instructional program. All classrooms are equipped with SMART interactive whiteboards and SMART technology, and all classrooms have individual computer stations. In addition, a Dell/PC lab, Mac lab, portable computer labs and iPod/iPad technology are available for enhanced instruction.
