Dixie Elementary Magnet School is on the northeast side of Lexington. The school opened in August 1966 and was extensively renovated in 1999. The building is an open complex school that nurtures the philosophy of a school family and professional learning community. Dixie Elementary’s magnet emphasis is to provide an instructional program for every child that will maximize individual strengths and interests.
What makes our school special
All students are offered an intensive and enriched program in all core areas. Dixie is also proud to offer Chinese as part of its instructional program. Students are scheduled for art, music, physical education, library, science or writing lab, and technology on a rotating schedule. Dixie integrates state-of-the-art technology into its instructional program. All second- through fifth-grade classrooms are equipped with Smart boards and Smart technology, and all classrooms have individual computer stations for students. In addition, the technology lab and a portable lab are available for students and teachers.
