The original Booker T. Washington Elementary School was built in 1916, and today is the site of the Black and Williams Neighborhood Center. In 2005, Booker T. Washington Elementary and The Academy at Lexington merged to form Booker T. Washington Academy, consisting of two buildings. In 2013-2014, the school separated into the primary academy at 707 Howard St., serving grades K-2, and the intermediate academy at 475 Price Road, serving grades 3-5. For the 2016-2017 school year, the two merged again with all grades K-5 returning to the Howard Street building.
