About our schools
Fayette County Public Schools serves about 40,000 students in pre-K through 12th grade. We have 35 elementary, 12 middle schools, five high schools, three technical centers and 11 other academic and alternative programs. A group of administrators at "It's About Kids" Support Services -- school directors -- oversees all the sites.
We are committed to providing the best possible education and well-rounded growth experience for each child. The 2020 Vision initiative sets the course for a world-class district. Through Comprehensive Improvement Planning, we determine how to ensure that students reach proficiency and beyond. Visit Data Central to track our progress.
Superintendent Tom Shelton unveiled an entry plan when he came on board in September 2011 and presented an update at the April 2012 school board meeting. He also delivered a "State of the Schools" report in April 2013.
