Within this legislation, School-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Councils were created in KRS 160.345. School Councils promote shared leadership between those who are closest to the students. Membership of the Council includes parents, teachers, and administrators of the local school. The SBDM Council then has the responsibility through KRS 160.345 2(c, 1) ...to set school policy, consistent with district board policy, which shall provide an environment to enhance the students' achievement and help the school meet the goals established by KRS 158.645 and 158.6451. By making decisions through shared decision-making, there is a higher commitment to implement the decisions that will enhance the achievement of students. This site was created to help provide information to parents, teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders on the the School-Based Decision Making process.
