The FCPS Safe Schools Office was established with collaborative funding from The Kentucky Center for School Safety and federal Title IV Funds (Safe and Drug Free Schools & Communities)

Office of SAFE Schools

The Safe Schools Office provides a coordinated approach to violence prevention, school-wide discipline, and intervention services to improve student achievement.

Our mission is to promote a safe learning environment for Fayette County Public Schools. Our purpose is to:

  • Implement an Integrated Approach to Safe Schools
  • Offer Effective Approaches (Principles of Effectiveness) relating to school-wide discipline and social competency
  • Increase District and School Focus on Prevention
  • Build Capacity in Each School
  • Respond to Identified School Needs

The team's approach:

  • Data driven services
  • Blending of diverse specialty areas related to safe schools
  • Primary safe schools specialist
  • Interdepartmental collaboration
  • Pyramid of services from primary prevention through intervention

Services offered

Consultation
  • Help schools to identify training needs
  • Explain training programs available through SSO, and the rationale behind those trainings
  • Consult with teachers/school staff regarding specific students
  • Consult with teachers/school staff regarding classroom management needs
  • Consult with teachers/school staff regarding programs/curricula
Training
  • Conduct on-going review of "best practice" models; share findings with FCPS
  • Provide training for schools and district staff
  • Provide follow-up support and evaluation to foster successful implementation
Interagency & Central Office Collaboration
  • Serve as lead agency for the FCPS Interagency Risk For Harm Collaborative
  • Represent the district on school and community boards committed to serving youth
  • Work with community agencies to secure funding for collaborative initiatives
  • Promote collaboration with other departments in central office
Direct Service
  • Provide direct services to students and/or families
  • Provide direct support to teachers, staff and administration
Evaluation & Data Collection
  • Complete evaluation of individual programs currently in use
  • Prepare Central Office, State and Federal reports
  • Prepare and conduct surveys and other research to assess needs and progress on safe schools initiatives
