When to keep your child home from school

The Fayette County Health Department in cooperation with the Fayette County Public Schools provides nursing services to 54 Fayette County Schools. All school nurses can be reached through their Health Department office at 288-2314.

School nursing services

Health appraisal

Continuous health supervision including case management of students with chronic health care conditions such as diabetes, asthma, seizure disorders, severe allergies.

Monitoring of required Physical Examinations

Monitoring of required Immunizations and T.B. Skin Test

Communicable disease control, monitoring, and consultation

Screenings: Vision; Scoliosis and Postural

Crisis and First Aid Care

Handicapped Services: Intermittent catheterization; tracheostomy care; postural drainage; gastrostomy tube care.

Assist with occupational and physical therapy referrals; health screenings for placement of behaviorally disturbed students; and neurological examinations.

Health Counseling

Students; Teachers; Parents — formal and informal

Health Education

Students; Classes; Written Material; Bulletin Boards; Faculty In-services; Consultations.

Family/Youth Resource Center Nurse Services include:

  • Assessment of individual student and family needs
  • Provision of case management, referral, and follow-up
  • Liaison with community agencies and programs to enhance health services for students and families
  • Health education for students and parents
