Dunbar takes combined-teams title at FCPS swim meet

Paul Laurence Dunbar High School won six girls’ events and five boys’ events to earn the combined-teams title at the 2013 Fayette County Public Schools swimming championships. Henry Clay was runner-up, followed by Tates Creek, Lafayette and Bryan Station.

Dunbar bested Tates Creek for the boys’ championship, and Henry Clay edged Dunbar on the girls’ side.

Among the outstanding individual performances, Dunbar’s Travis Johnson won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races, while Sandra Wilk took the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Also, Lafayette’s Kyrie Dobson won the 50 and 100 freestyles in the girls’ contests, and Tates Creek’s Christian Clark won the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly for the boys.

The swimmers competed Jan. 26 at Transylvania University.
