Dixie, Meadowthorpe, Rosa Parks take lead in Governor’s Cup

Dixie, Meadowthorpe and Rosa Parks elementary schools topped their respective fields, and Athens-Chilesburg was runner-up in its group in the 2013 Governor’s Cup district competition, which concluded March 2. The Region 21 contests are slated for later this month.  

The Governor’s Cup was founded in 1986 as a way to promote and reward outstanding academic achievement. It has since become Kentucky’s premier academic competition. A contest consists of five written assessment exams, composition (on-demand writing), future problem-solving and quick recall (also known as quiz bowl).

The 2013 elementary competition culminates with regional contests March 19 and 23. The middle grades and high school divisions also include state contests, with the finals set for March 16-18 in Louisville.
