Free sign language classes available

This fall Fayette County Public Schools will again offer Beginning Sign Language for families and community members, as well as for district faculty and staff. All classes are free.

 

The community sessions are set for Mondays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 26, Oct. 3, Oct. 10, Oct. 17, Oct. 24, Nov. 7, Nov. 14, Nov. 21, Nov. 28 and Dec. 5, with Dec. 12 as a make-up day if needed.* The class will meet in the annex library at “It’s About Kids” Support Services, 701 E. Main St. The annex is off Walton Avenue behind the main administration building.

 

The series for employees will focus on signs used in an educational setting. These sessions are scheduled for Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 15, Sept. 22, Oct. 6, Oct. 20, Oct. 27, Nov. 3, Nov. 10, Nov. 17, Dec. 1 and Dec. 8. The September classes will meet in the IAKSS annex cafeteria, with the rest in the annex library.

* Note: Sign language classes will not meet if schools are closed because of inclement weather.
