Designed to enhance a quality arts education, the National PTA’s Reflections program provides opportunities for students to express themselves and to receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts. The 2011-2012 Reflections theme is “Diversity Means...”
Sarah Caton of Lafayette High School and Shayda Alsalihi of Liberty Elementary set the pace among this fall’s winners in Fayette County Public Schools with four and three awards, respectively.
Initially, students from 25 schools submitted more than 1,500 pieces for judging by their own PTA or PTSA. The 176 school winners moved on to the district-level competition, and 60 medals were awarded Dec. 4 at “It’s About Kids” Support Services. Those entries now advance to the statewide Reflections contest.
The six competitive areas include musical composition, film production, dance choreography, literature, photography and visual arts (with such media as drawing, painting, print-making and collage).
