Lisa Hager, who has taught wellness and P.E. at Southern Middle School since 2009, is the state’s Secondary Physical Education Teacher of the Year.

The award, which she received Nov. 15 during a statewide conference in Lexington, comes from the Kentucky Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (KAHPERD).

“I treat my class like my family,” said Hager, a 14-year veteran teacher. “Being a positive role model is an area where I feel I shine. I have always incorporated fitness into my teaching and my life.”

A Lexington native, Hager earned her degree in physical education from Eastern Kentucky University and her master’s in health and Rank I in sports administration from the University of Kentucky.
