Nine students have received awards through the 13th annual Partners for Youth/Toyota Scholarship Program.

Congratulations to Seirria Adams, Paul Laurence Dunbar High School; Isabelle Amuri, Lafayette High School; Kiearra Brown, Tates Creek High School; Charna Coleman, Lafayette; Kiana Davis, Tates Creek; Victoria Joseph, The Learning Center at Linlee; Tiffany Seaman, The Learning Center; Lauren Wash, Henry Clay High School; and Demetria Wingate, Tates Creek.

The students were honored Nov. 7 at a special reception at The Bell House. Eight received $1,000 each while Wingate received the $1,500 A.J. Newcomb Scholarship (named for a past recipient who died of complications from a heart transplant soon after graduating from Lafayette in 2001).

To be eligible for these scholarships, students must participate in one of the 33 grassroots programs supported by Partners for Youth, a nonprofit community coalition that works to improve the lives of economically disadvantaged youth. Applicants answered a series of questions about life activities and things that made them proud. They also shared how they would advise younger students to develop skills for promoting successful behavior and coping with problems.
