God’s Pantry recognized several Lexington schools Dec. 9 for their efforts in this fall’s “Kids Can Hunger” countywide food drive.

“All of the 50 schools that participated are winners in our opinion – 26,774 students were registered, and they brought in a total of 84,471 pounds of food. That is a lot of weight to haul into school!” said coordinator Robert Srodulski, who noted that several winners immediately offered to donate their prizes to the food bank, too.

Following are the FCPS winners of cash awards sponsored by Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky:

  • Grand prize, $1,000: Veterans Park Elementary; 8,455 pounds or 12.8 pounds per student.
  • Runner-up, $400: Cassidy Elementary; 7,988 pounds or 12.6 pounds per student.
  • First place among middle schools, $400: Jessie Clark; 5,672 pounds or 6.6 pounds per student.
