Donna Ebelhar has been selected as the Kentucky Science Teachers Association’s 2011 Middle School Science Teacher of the Year.
Ebelhar enjoys helping students gain a greater understanding of the nature of science and of scientific processes and encourages them to think for themselves. She has taught for 10 years in Fayette County Public Schools – all at Southern Middle – and this is her 26th year overall.
“Through the years, I have been inspired by many amazing people who have helped me develop my passion and understanding of science – from university professors who challenged me in school, to colleagues who work with me during ongoing professional development, to my students who impress me and keep me on my toes every day. I want all of these people to know that this award would not have been possible without their guidance and support,” she said.
Ebelhar will be honored Nov. 4 during the KSTA statewide meeting at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Lexington. She will receive a complimentary conference registration, a plaque and a one-year membership to KSTA.
A native of Owensboro, Ebelhar graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Arts in education in 1985 and earned her Rank II in 1990.
