Winburn best in section of Sixth-Grade Showcase

Winburn Middle School stood atop its group’s final standings in the 12th annual Kentucky Colonels Sixth-Grade Showcase, and Lexington Traditional Magnet placed first in the quick recall portion.

 

Beaumont was runner-up overall in the Dec. 3 academic competition, followed by LTMS and then Edythe J. Hayes in fifth place. In quick recall, Winburn was second and Hayes fourth.

 

The showcase also included written assessments in several areas. Here are the top individual results from Fayette County Public Schools:

  • Language Arts: 1. Madi Halwes, Beaumont; T2. Ananya Jain, Beaumont; T2. Kelly Chen, Winburn.
  • Mathematics: 1. Austin Booth, LTMS; 2. Chris Duncan, Beaumont; T3. Luke Porter, Beaumont; T3. David Ma, Winburn.
  • Science: 1. Meenakshi Singhal, Winburn; 3. Elijah Pike, Edythe J. Hayes.
  • Social Studies: 1. Chris Duncan, Beaumont; 2. Enio Kuvliev, Winburn; 3. Austin Booth, LTMS.
  • Arts & Humanities: 1. Zsombor Gal, Winburn; 3. David Ma, Winburn.
  • Composition: 1. Kelly Kral, Beaumont; 2. Kelly Chen, Winburn; 3. Olivia Zastro, Beaumont.

Sponsored by the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, the Sixth-Grade Showcase is an academic event designed to provide a competitive opportunity for students who are sometimes “lost” between elementary (4-5) and middle grades (6-8) in Governor’s Cup contests. Schools are grouped into competitive sections of as many as eight teams each.
