Henry Clay High School captured team honors in the 7th Region wrestling tournament, which Tates Creek hosted Feb. 12. It was the Blue Devils’ first region title.
Henry Clay’s depth was key. The Blue Devils had three winners in Joe Whalen (145), Mike Whalen (103) and Andrew Ogg (215), a runner-up and five wrestlers who qualified for state.
Other individual champions from Fayette County Public Schools were Lafayette’s Camden Hanley (112), Will Bryant (119) and Jimmy Lacy (125); and Tucker Lyles (171) of Paul Laurence Dunbar High.
Dunbar, which won the title in 2007, is the only other Lexington school to have beaten perennial power Woodford County in the 7th Region.
