Plant a tree for veterans

Gov. Steve Beshear encourages schools across the state to plant a tree in honor and in memory of military veterans.

“With Kentuckians involved in two ongoing wars, their service and sacrifice deserve our recognition,” Beshear wrote to principals. “This is a creative way to provide Kentucky children the opportunity to pause and reflect on the sacrifices veterans have made. It will also serve as a living reminder for all the days to come – a place for children to gather in honor of those who have given so much.”

The Governor’s Office asks that participating schools photograph their tree and e-mail the JPEG to susan.rieber@ky.gov. She will also accept pictures from other Veterans Day activities and observances. The photos will be displayed in the state Capitol in 2011.
