Southern Middle School stacked up 10 gold medals in the Technology Student Association’s 2011 state competition to pace the participants from Fayette County Public Schools. Students from Lafayette, Paul Laurence Dunbar and Tates Creek high schools also earned statewide awards.

The March 17-19 conference in Louisville offered myriad creative displays and intense contests in everything from Engineering Structure and Dragster Design to Electronic Gaming and Fashion Design.

In addition, Southern’s Lauren Miller was elected secretary of the Kentucky TSA. Teacher Scott Davis of Southside Technical Center, who handled conference logistics, received the Outstanding Recognition Award. And parents Bob and Donna Farquhar and Fred and Becky Barnott picked up the statewide Outstanding Service Award.

In TSA, students integrate science, technology, engineering and mathematics concepts through co-curricular activities, competitive events and related programs. Visit www.tsaweb.org/ for more details.

This year’s national conference is June 21-25 in Dallas.
