Volleyball star is county’s top scholar-athlete

Kate StrombergKate Stromberg, a senior at Henry Clay High School, has received the Lexington Rotary Club’s 2011 Tommy Bell Award.

This honor goes to the outstanding scholar-athlete in Fayette County, as chosen by high school principals, coaches and members of the sports media.

In volleyball, Kate led the Blue Devils to the state semifinals last fall and was first-team All-State. She will graduate with a 3.95 GPA in Henry Clay’s Liberal Arts Academy and will attend Florida Southern on academic and athletic scholarships.

The annual award is in memory of attorney, NFL referee and humanitarian Tommy Bell, an active Rotarian who died in 1986.
