Nearly four dozen students from Eastside and Southside technical centers competed for prizes and scholarships at the 2011 SkillsUSA state conference. First-place winners will advance to the National Leadership and Skills Conference set for June 19-24 in Kansas City.

During the April 5-8 meeting in Louisville, SkillsUSA members also conducted business for the Kentucky chapter, met with business and industry representatives, and heard from government officials.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working to ensure that the United States has a skilled workforce. The national organization serves high school and college students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service arenas, including health occupations.
