Nearly 300 students from 10 technical centers squared off in the annual SkillsUSA North Central Region competition. They tested both their technical skills and their leadership abilities in the March 4 contests, hosted by Southside and Eastside technical centers and Bluegrass Community & Technical College.
Gold-medal winners earned a scholarship for tuition for one course at BCTC. Ohio Technical College also awarded scholarships in the welding and automotive categories.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working to ensure that the United States has a skilled workforce. The national organization serves high school and college students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service arenas, including health occupations.
This year’s state conference is April 5-8 in Louisville, and the national conference is June 19-24 in Kansas City.
