At its Feb. 28 meeting, the Fayette County Board of Education approved the following members of the 2011 superintendent screening committee, representing their respective areas:

  • Jessica Hiler, teachers;
  • Amanda Hurley, teachers;
  • Kim Webb, classified staff;
  • Amy McVey, principals;
  • Jessica Berry, parents;
  • John Price; school board.

According to state law, the panel must include two certified employees elected by their peers, one classified employee elected by peers, one principal elected by peers, one parent elected by PTA presidents from each school and one school board member appointed by the chairman.

Superintendent Stu Silberman’s retirement is effective Aug. 31. The school board hopes to hire a replacement by July 1.

The board has requested proposals from search firms that might help in recruiting candidates. Proposals are expected this month, and it is not clear when the board will advertise for candidates. Once applications are in hand, the screening committee will review them and suggest a list of finalists to the school board.
