Kentucky law requires children between 6 and 16 years old to attend school. Any child who turns 5 on or before Oct. 1 can enroll in full-day kindergarten. FCPS also offers Early Start for qualified preschoolers.

To enroll a child in FCPS for the first time, families should go to the school their neighborhood is assigned to and fill out a registration packet. Visit www.fcps.net/street or call (859) 381-4315 to find your school.

If you want to enroll your child in a different school, you must complete an out-of-area request. However, FCPS officials still recommend that you register at your neighborhood school. Visit www.fcps.net/outofarea or call (859) 381-4122 for details.

Kindergarten registration is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at each elementary school during these periods:

  • Feb. 14 through March 11 (first registration window)
  • April 11 through April 29 (second registration window)
  • Tuesdays from June 14 through July 19, except July 5
  • July 25 to Aug. 11 (first day of school)
  • Tuesday evening registration will be available from 4 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 15 and April 12.

The brand-new Wellington Elementary is holding registration at "It's About Kids" Support Services, 701 E. Main St. On April 11, go to Norsworthy Auditorium in the main building; from April 12-29, go to the lower level of the Ambrose building, which faces Walton Avenue.
