Leestown Middle School has been awarded nine musical instruments from The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. Leestown was among nearly 200 applicants, and fewer than a dozen were chosen.
The school will receive a new alto saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, flute and trombone and a refurbished alto sax, clarinet, trumpet and flute.
“This award provides a great opportunity for our students to have new instruments and add to the quality of the band program. We are very thankful and look forward to sharing these instruments with our students as soon as possible,” said band director Chris Strange.
The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation keeps music alive in schools and communities by donating instruments to under-funded music programs, giving youngsters the many benefits of music education, helping them to be better students and inspiring creativity and expression through playing music.
