Fayette County Public Schools is seeking community input on a name for the new elementary school under construction on Keithshire Way, which is scheduled to open in August 2011.

The district’s naming policy says new schools, facilities and properties may be named for a geographical area of Lexington/Fayette County or a prominent deceased person who contributed to the history and/or progress of the Lexington/Fayette County area or nation.

Suggestions can be submitted online or sent in writing to 701 E. Main St., Room 108, Lexington KY 40502. Please include your proposed name for the new school and your rationale, your own name, and your daytime phone number.

Nominations will close Tuesday, Aug. 17.

All suggestions will be forwarded to a naming committee, which will make a recommendation to the superintendent. The superintendent will then propose a school name to the Fayette County Board of Education.
