Lynette Mitchell of Bryan Station Middle School has been named Middle School Counselor of the Year by the Kentucky Counseling Association, which recognizes excellence on the job and service to the profession as a volunteer leader.
The Kentucky Counseling Association is the umbrella organization for school, mental health and pastoral counselors. This latest honor follows Mitchell’s selection last spring as the state’s Outstanding Middle School Counselor, as chosen by the Kentucky School Counselor Association.
“I am honored that professionally my colleagues think I deserve two awards in a year. It gives me the motivation to keep working hard for the students and families in my school,” Mitchell said. “Often, jobs like ours are under the radar. So it is very nice to be noticed on a state level.”
Mitchell has nearly 25 years of experience in Fayette County Public Schools, including time teaching special education classes and life science at Winburn Middle School. She has been a counselor since joining Bryan Station Middle School.
A native of Louisville, Mitchell earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Kentucky and a master of arts in education and Rank 1 from Eastern Kentucky University.
