Idrees Kahloon, a junior at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, has pocketed $10,000 in the "Jeopardy!" Teen Tournament.
Idrees, who is captain of his school's academic team and president of the Dunbar Culture Society, won his opening game handily. But he was eliminated Thursday night in the semifinals.
He was among 15 students from across the country competing in the two-week Teen Tournament, which runs through March 2.
The grand prize is $75,000. The runner-up receives a minimum of $50,000 and the third-place finisher gets at least $25,000. Semifinalists take home $10,000, while contestants eliminated in the first round get $5,000 apiece.
