Dixie, Meadowthorpe set bar in Governor’s Cup

Dixie and Meadowthorpe won their respective district contests in the first round of the 2011 Governor’s Cup elementary school competition, which concluded Feb. 26.
The Governor’s Cup was founded in 1986 as a way to promote and recognize outstanding achievement. Kentucky’s premier academic competition, it consists of five written assessment exams, composition (on-demand writing), future problem-solving and quick recall (also known as quiz bowl).
Here are the top results from Fayette County Public Schools.
District 73:
- Overall: 1st Dixie Elementary Magnet; 3rd Maxwell Elementary; 4th Booker T. Washington Academy.
- Math: 1st Garrett Lockwood, 2nd Ryan Landry, 3rd John Felty, all of Dixie.

Complete results from the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition
In the elementary division of Governor’s Cup, students participate in a district and a regional contest. The middle grades and high school divisions include a district, regional and state competition.
The 2011 elementary regionals are set for March 15 and 19.
