Regular readers of Stu’s News are familiar with the “Fred Sightings” section, which spotlights employees who go above and beyond to provide excellent customer service. “Fred Sightings” were inspired by the book “The Fred Factor” by Mark Sanborn, which is about a very service-minded postman.
Excited by the contagious nature of our “Fred Sightings,” the Lexington postmaster approached the school district several years ago about establishing a Quarterly Fred Award. Nominees are compiled from the “Fred Sightings” published in Stu’s News and voted on by a panel of judges from the U.S. Postal Service.
The latest honorees are William Larkin and Henry Clay High School’s JROTC cadets, who were congratulated at the November school board meeting. They were nominated by Tami Raleigh, the Youth Services Center coordinator at Leestown Middle School. Here is her “Fred Sighting” submission:
I want to share how William Larkin and Henry Clay High School’s JROTC cadets saved the day for Leestown Middle School’s annual Reality Store. This program involves students exploring the connections between their school grades, future earning potential and household budgeting. In the real-life simulation, the eighth-graders each have a checking account and must pay monthly expenses. Twenty booths are set up in the gym, with two volunteers at each table to work with students as they shop. At the last minute, we had an entire volunteer group cancel! I called Mr. Larkin, and he said he would be there with 15 cadets – even on a Friday! The entire group also stayed late to help clean up. Henry Clay JROTC, you rock!
