Chess teams in Fayette County Public Schools competed in the Quad C regional tournament, which included schools from central and northern Kentucky. The top four teams in each section will advance to the scholastic chess state tournament, set for March 5 in Louisville. It is sponsored by the Kentucky Chess Association.

FCPS results from the Jan. 29 regional qualifier:

• K3 section: 1^st Meadowthorpe Elementary, 2^nd Stonewall Elementary, 3^rd Rosa Parks.
• K5 section: 2^nd Meadowthorpe, 4^th Rosa Parks, 5^th Stonewall, 7^th Ashland.
• K8 section: 1^st SCAPA Bluegrass, 2^nd Lexington Traditional Magnet, 4^th Tates Creek Middle.
• K12 section: 1^st Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.
