Cheer and Dance Showcase spotlights talent

Students stepped lively in the annual Fayette County Middle School Cheer and Dance Showcase, which Henry Clay High School hosted Feb. 3.
In the cheer division, LTMS was the Grand Champion, and Morton A won the Best Choreography Award. In dance, it was Edythe J. Hayes as the Grand Champion, with Leestown’s hip-hop squad taking Best Choreography honors. In the step team division, Bryan Station was the Grand Champion, and Tates Creek won Best Choreography.
In addition, more than 400 students were recognized for academic achievement (3.0-4.0 GPA).
Top cheerleading results:
- Sideline/timeout: 1st – Morton Spirit Team, coached by Carla Trisko and Christina Herrington; 2nd – LTMS Flay Team, coached by Turqouise Edwards and Rachel Pittman.
- Level 1: 1st – Tates Creek, coached by Tesha Livingston; 2nd – Winburn, coached by Nietta Frazier and Rachel Lush; 3rd – Southern, coached by Jennifer Kearns.
- Level 3: 1st – Beaumont, coached by Amanda King; 2nd – Jessie Clark, coached by Katie Harper; 3rd – Lexington Traditional Magnet School, coached by Marilee Applegate, Megan Applegate and Bretta Hulcha.

Level 5: 1st place was a tie between Edythe J. Hayes, coached by Deedra Murphy and Ashlee Hyde, and Morton’s “A” Team, coached by Carla Trisko and Christina Herrington.

- Step: 1st – Bryan Station, coached by Kathryn Raitiere; 2nd – Tates Creek, coached by Darnetta Sanders; 3rd – LTMS, coached by Belinda Jackson and Cassandra Jones.
- Pom: 1st – Edythe J. Hayes, coached by LeAnn Hall and Sarah Lamothe; 2nd – LTMS, coached by Marilee Applegate, Megan Applegate and Bretta Hulcha; 3rd – Beaumont, coached by Emily Rector.
- Jazz: 1st – Morton, coached by Christina Herrington; 2nd – Jessie Clark, coached by Megan Thompson; 3rd – Southern, coached by Cassie Peyton.
